From the Mandela Forum to the clubs: Florence's scenes

In Florence, big concerts almost always pass through the Nelson Mandela Forum, the city's arena for major indoor international tours and the biggest names' Italian dates. It's the absolute reference for large crowds: tickets go on sale months in advance, queues at the entrance, nights with thousands of people. In summer the scene moves outdoors, between seasonal arenas and the city's big green spaces, with festivals and events that fill Florentine nights from June to September.

Below the arena there's a fabric of theaters and clubs that keep the scene alive all year: Teatro Cartiere Carrara hosts both drama and concerts, the Tenax (historically home to the Viper Theatre hall) remains the reference for international rock and indie, while venues like Chapiteu Side and Circo Madera bring more niche lineups. For jazz and acoustic music, churches and auditoriums in the historic center (like the Auditorium of Santo Stefano al Ponte) host intimate series, often in beautiful artistic settings.

Where they play: area by area

The geography of Florence's live scene is compact compared to bigger cities. The Nelson Mandela Forum is in Campo di Marte, well connected by tram and bus but off-center from the historic core: if you're heading to a big concert, plan extra time to get back. The Tenax, a historic reference for international indie and rock touring acts, sits on the northern outskirts near the airport, mostly opening for big-name shows.

In the center, between the Duomo and Santa Croce, you'll find the historic theaters that also host music: Teatro Verdi and Teatro Puccini, alongside the classical and opera season at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. In summer, churches and Renaissance courtyards in the center become stages for classical and chamber music series, a very different experience from any pop concert: natural acoustics, historic setting, an intimate crowd. On this page you'll find upcoming concerts with venue, time and, where available, the minimum price, with a direct link to official ticketing.
