Florence has a countryside right on its doorstep that lives on local festivals: Chianti, Impruneta, the Tuscan towns where the grape harvest is still a village celebration. Here you'll find the festivals coming up in the next few weeks, within about an hour of the city, with date, location and a link to the official page.
01What Tuscan local festivals are
A "sagra" is a village fair tied to a typical product or local tradition: the grape harvest, chestnuts, truffles, a Tuscan dish. Unlike a city festival, it's almost always held in the town square, runs for several days and is free or nearly so (you only pay for what you eat or drink).
The best-known festival near Florence is the Impruneta Grape Festival, but almost every Chianti town holds its own autumn celebration, somewhere between the grape harvest and the olive harvest.
02A weekend in Chianti
The festivals listed below are within about 60 km of Florence: a radius that covers Chianti (Impruneta, Greve, Radda) well and the closest towns in the province, excluding destinations too far for a day trip.
The real distance from Florence varies a lot from town to town: always check the address before you leave, especially if you plan to come back the same evening.
