One thing first, though: a milonga is partner dancing, and you join the floor when invited. With no basics at all you will spend the night sitting down. That is what the class beforehand is for.
How it works, in three steps
- 1Pick a night with a class (an hour before the milonga, you learn the minimum steps) or a practica, where people dance without protocol and you can get it wrong in peace.
- 2You turn up and pay 10-15 € at the door. No booking, no online ticket.
- 3You stay for the milonga. Nobody judges you: everyone started there.

What is on, day by day
Roman tango runs on a fixed calendar: every milonga has its night, and in a normal week people dance seven days out of seven. Salsa concentrates at the weekend.
A tanda lasts three or four songs.Then the music stops, you thank each other and change partner. That is how a milonga works, and it is why you can come on your own.

Where Latin dancing runs all year
Far less skill is expected here: you drink, you dance, you change partner without ceremony. There are few of them and most sit outside the centre, so check the night before heading out.
